The rule, in full

Founder Pro: always dofollow. No badge, no checks, nothing to maintain.
Free listing: dofollow while the badge is live on your site. We look once a week.
Two strikes, not one. A single failed check changes nothing - an outage, a deploy, a slow response. It takes two consecutive misses before the link becomes nofollow, and putting the badge back restores it at the next check.
Anywhere on the page you linked. Footer is fine. It has to be on the URL you listed, and it has to be a real link a crawler can see - not an image alone, and not injected by script after load.

Where to grab your snippet
